Coaxial Powering - Powering Fiber Devices using Coax Powering

Bentley Coax can also account for power usage from Fiber Splice Enclosures and/or Fiber Cabinets which are utilized in the Bentley Fiber module. These devices are defined in the Fiber Spec file, and have a 'Power' button in the Fiber Spec dialog, which allows the user to place Current and Voltage requirements for the device(s). Coaxial Powering will then calculate those values of the fiber devices, while powering in the Coax module. These devices must be placed while using the Fiber design module, but connected by power jumper to a Coax powering device in the Coax Powering design module.

Define a fiber splice enclosure device or a Fiber Cabinet as a 'Powering' device in the Fiber specfile. Using the File > OpenComms Settings > OSP-Fiber > Splices button (or the File > OpenComms Settings > OSP-Common > Cabinets button.) This will display the following Splice Enclosure Attributes dialog:

To create a splice enclosure that will allow the Coax powering to calculate powering, click Add under the existing Splice list and give your new splice model a name in the dialog and click OK:

The new model will then appear in the Splice List-highlight the new splice enclosure and click the 'Power' button at the bottom of the dialog. The Fiber Powering dialog will display-if the Power Device box is checked, and Voltage and Current draw values are entered, this device will process powering from the Coax module. Unchecking this box will disable the ability to be powered from the Coax module.

After defining the new powering splice enclosure or Cabinet, the splice (or Cabinet) will be placed during the Fiber design, but will be 'connectable' from the Coax module-i.e. a powering cable from the Coax module can be 'connected' to this fiber device, while placing powering in the Coax module.
